OpenClaw Enterprise: what it is and how to adopt it.

OpenClaw Enterprise (OCE) is a free, open-source control plane for running persistent AI agents with centralized governance. The OpenClaw Foundation announced it on September 29, 2026, with OpenAI, Red Hat and NVIDIA involved. Appropia has run OpenClaw in production since February 2026, and several clients operate dozens of agents in production.

What it adds

The layer enterprises ask for before letting agents touch real systems.

OpenClaw started as a personal agent. OCE adds central administration, isolation and auditing. Based on the coverage published by the specialist press, it offers:

01

Multi-tenancy

Several teams or customers on the same platform, kept apart from each other.

02

Hard security boundaries

Each workload is isolated, so one agent cannot reach what another one is allowed to touch.

03

Governance and auditing

Lifecycle management, fine-grained permissions and an audit trail across the whole life of an agent.

04

Replaceable components

Models, agent harnesses and sandboxes can be swapped without redesigning the platform.

05

Self-hosted and MIT-licensed

Docker Compose for development and Kubernetes for production. Agent activity does not route through a third-party service.

Who is behind it

A project that started inside OpenAI and now belongs to a foundation.

OCE originated within OpenAI and was donated to the OpenClaw Foundation, which runs it as independent open-source infrastructure. OpenAI and Red Hat are piloting it internally.

Red Hat joined as a founding member and plans to integrate it with OpenShift. NVIDIA contributed OpenShell, an isolated runtime for agents.

What we do not know yet

Read the fine print before you plan around it.

It is not finished production infrastructure.

It is positioned for internal pilot workloads, with a 1.0 release planned for later in 2026.

The security architecture is still to be documented.

A reference document on workload boundaries and permissions was announced but has not been published.

How it coexists with what you already run.

There is no public migration experience yet from existing deployments.

Until that is clearer, we do not recommend treating OCE as an immediate replacement for what works in production today.

What it means for you

Three starting points.

You are not using agents yet

OCE confirms that agent governance is now an infrastructure category. Start with a narrow pilot instead of a platform decision.

You already run agents

Review your current controls (permissions, isolation, logging, human approval) and test OCE in a separate environment, without touching production.

You are evaluating vendors

Ask how they govern agents today, not only which model they use.

How Appropia helps

We have configured, deployed and secured OpenClaw. We can do it with you.

Appropia has run OpenClaw in production since February 2026, and several clients operate dozens of agents in production. We work with companies in the United States and Latin America.

  • Assessment and use-case selection: one process, one owner, one metric.
  • Secure deployment: isolation, least-privilege permissions, secrets handling and logging.
  • A governance layer with human approval and an audit trail, through AgenticOS, our product built on OpenClaw.
  • Pilots with measurable results, then operation after go-live.

We will evaluate how OCE complements our approach once its security documentation and a stable release exist; we do not assume any integration today. Appropia is a member of the NVIDIA Connect Program.

A 30-day pilot at a glance

Small, serious and measurable.

  1. Week 1 · Design

Map one process, define what the agent does and what a person keeps doing, and prepare an isolated environment, a service account and a baseline metric.

  2. Week 2 · Build

Configure the agent and its tools with test data. Connect only what is essential. Do not install third-party skills without reviewing them.

  3. Week 3 · Test with people

A small group uses the agent on real cases and a person reviews every result. Include adversarial cases, such as hidden instructions in a document.

  4. Week 4 · Decide

Compare against the baseline and read the logs. Scale, adjust for another week, or stop.

Frequently asked questions

What is OpenClaw Enterprise?+

OpenClaw Enterprise (OCE) is a free, open-source control plane for operating persistent AI agents with centralized governance: multi-tenancy, hard security boundaries, lifecycle management, auditing and fine-grained permissions. The OpenClaw Foundation announced it on September 29, 2026.

Is OpenClaw Enterprise free?+

Yes. It is released under the MIT License and can be self-hosted. The costs are the infrastructure, the language models you use and the work of configuring, securing and operating it.

Is OpenClaw Enterprise ready for production?+

Not yet, by the project's own positioning: it is presented for internal pilot workloads, with a 1.0 release planned later in 2026. Key security architecture documentation is still to be published.

Is OpenClaw Enterprise the same as NemoClaw?+

No. NemoClaw is NVIDIA's stack for OpenClaw (local models, an isolated runtime and a privacy router). OCE is the OpenClaw Foundation's control plane for running fleets of agents. They can be used together; NVIDIA contributed its OpenShell runtime to OCE.

Can Appropia help us run OpenClaw?+

Yes. Appropia has run OpenClaw in production since February 2026, and several clients operate dozens of agents in production. We help with use-case selection, secure deployment, governance and measurable pilots, for companies in the United States and Latin America.

What do we need to get started?+

One process, one owner, one metric, the data the agent will use, least-privilege permissions, an isolated environment and human review for sensitive actions. We outline a 30-day pilot on this page.
